In the Midst

teaching-kindness

In the midst of despair
when a child is hurting,
the kindness of those around me
provides me a peaceful heart.

I tell myself I am strong enough
to endure, to get through; I have always been.
But now, I am surprised by the real need.

Your words are like poetry, he said.
I can see the anger in your eyes, she said.
Shed the façade – let us show you kindness, they said.
